Aus v Wales: Euro Tour 06

Well... what an interesting start to the European tour. Let's hope no one else was watching the final 10 minutes of the first half of the Wales v Aus game.
Such a great start was ruined by a loss of focus. Hopefully the items in the "what's been working for us" column outweigh the other columns..
Chris Latham! The one man team/juggernaught continues to score roughly one try every two games, and this time pulled out an unbelievable solo effort to put Australia back into the game. What can't he do? I'm gonna say it: best fullback in the game at the moment.

Bipolar Wallabies

Hi Again,
What s good about this coming weekend is that the Wallabies aren't playing. This means my stress levels will stay relatively low (although I do have a round of golf scheduled).
A bit harsh? A bit too "on the nose"? Well, I'm sick and tired of seeing the Wallabies come out and have a cracker first half, only to revert to the also-rans who played South Africa! The key to Rugby, much like in Golf, is consistency. The Wallabies are anything but consistent, and it's driving me mad.
In other news, look ahead to the European Tour.

Fans,
Well, I've been pretty silent for most of the 2006 Rugby season. I've still be watching as much as I can, and I've also been to a few games - both Super 14 and Test matches.
Wallabies/Australia Section
I attended both Tests in Sydney this year, as well as the odd Waratah game too. There are a few things troubling me this season more than ever.
Australia's sports media are outdoing themselves this season with over-the-top criticism (one could argue that given last season's poor results, it's warranted) - however it doesn't seem to matter how many wins the Wallabies score, the... (more)

Hi Rugby Fans!

So what a year we're having. The English sent packing, the Irish humbled.. wow. The New Zealand All Blacks have also had a good start to the rep season, as too have South Africa up until meeting France.
We'll gloss over the *new* Super 14 semis and final - I mean, who actually "saw" the final anyway? Damn shame they went ahead and played in such terrible conditions.
Anyhow, since all the Wallabies games are on free to air, I'll start to do some more blogging. WATCH THIS SPACE

Hello and welcome to Super Rugby in 2006.
I'm your belated tour to Rugby in the southern hemisphere, and welcome aboard. Okay, so I know it's almost halfway through the season, but I've been busy.
I joined a tipping comp this year and I'm ranked 8th out of 2,500 people. So, based on that I think I know what I'm talking about (for a change) - or I'm really good at guessing.
Anyhow, few surprises this season, as the dominant Super 12 teams have remained at the top of the new Super 14 tournament. The team to beat are the Canterbury Crusaders (who are almost always the team to... (more)

Well, S14 is officially off and we're headlong, almost through the first month.
I've only seen one match - Crusaders v Sharks - since we have the "no-pay tv" thing happening. What I WANT TO KNOW is why the Australian games can't be bloody televised free-to-air (in Australia)?
A few Waratahs are expecting to feel the bench shortly, which ultimately can't hurt since a fair few of them have been on suspension anyways.
A few kiwis got into an internal team punch up (Hurricanes) in South Africa -- anyone sent home?
Anyhow that's all for now..

Hi Rugger Fans,
So evidently someone read my last post and Eddie Jones is no more. It was funny observing the circus surrounding the search for his replacement. It was the poisoned hot potato that no one wanted.
C'mon folks - it's a shot at coaching a National side! If any of the half baked coaches who were rumoured to be on the ARU's shortlist were any good, they should have opted in. I mean, it's only a chance to shape the national team for the next Rugby World Cup.. anyhow.. they were obviously not up to the challenge [McKenzie, Nucifora etc etc].
Wendell has hit Sydney. He'll... (more)

FIRE EDDIE JONES

Hi,

I've just finished watching the appauling Wallabies/England game. Why I bother staying up in the wee hours to watch this garbage is beyond me. Australia has now lost seven internationals in a row! I think maybe we'll need to get Tonga out again, to remedy the consecutive losses.

The answer is simple: Eddie Jones has got to go. What are the selectors thinking keeping Giteau on the bench? Whittaker is certainly no better than Gregan - what's going to happen at halfback?

It's obvious Australia has NO ANSWER in the forwards. Having said that, I hope that Dunning is able... (more)

5 Straight Losses: Kiwis claim TriNations

All Blacks coach Graham Henry paid the Wallabies the ultimate compliment by saying that the Wallabies (and Springboks) were a far more talented team[s] than the recent Lions team who toured New Zealand. One hopes that the Australian sport media pays attention, especially since he was being sincere. Kiwis aren't in the habit of paying compliments lightly.

I didn't catch tonight's game, and it wasn't on purpose, either. I was en route from the Gold Coast after a day's work function, and the flight was scheduled from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. By the time I got to a tele it was all... (more)

Wallabies Close Fight; Boks stumble to ABs

Hi,

This is a two game wrap up - having no entry for the Springboks v All Blacks or the Springboks v Wallabies games.

The Springboks "barely legal" defensive strategy (with help of some close-to-myopic referees who haven't (it seems) got a clue how to exercise the "offside" rule) came close to outright victory in 2005. A late try to Kevin Mealamu took the game from the Springboks (who rightly|wrongly) sought victory.

The Boks v Wallabies game.. give.. me.. strength.. Well, at least it was close. However, it's hard to overlook the fact that the Wallabies haven't won a... (more)
